The Akaa Piikani Language and Kiosk Project

The Akaa Piikani Language and Kiosk Project is the first of its kind in Siksikatsiitaipii, the Blackfoot People, which are comprised of Piikaniwa, Amsskapipiikani (South Piikani), Siksikawa, and Kainaiwa. The Kiosk will teach creation stories, the Blackfoot language and culture, and songs using the geographical mapping of the Siksikatsiitapiwa. It contains detailed descriptions of many prominent Siksikatsiitapiwa sacred sites and historical events done in the “Archaeology Toponymy Of The Blackfoot Aboriginal Territory” by Maria Nieves Zedono and Francios Lanoe where hundreds of Blackfoot sites are located and researched. Our very special Piikani Traditional Knowledge Holders then build off that report and share their wisdom and recollections of those sites and other sites not listed in the report. The Kiosk will serve as a learning tool for the Piikani way of life in an effort to preserve the Blackfoot language and culture.
